Small business website checklist
A plain-language list of what to check before your website goes live, or what to look for on the site you already have. Free to use and share; no sign-up needed.
1. Can people contact you?
- Your phone number and email are on every page, and the phone number can be tapped to call on mobile.
- Your contact form works: send yourself a test and confirm it arrives.
- You say where you work: your address, or the towns and region you serve.
- Your hours are listed, if customers need them.
2. Does it work on a phone?
- Text is readable without zooming, and buttons are easy to tap.
- The menu opens and closes, and every link goes somewhere.
- Nothing runs off the side of the screen.
3. Does it explain what you do?
- Within a few seconds on the home page, a visitor can tell what you offer and who it's for.
- Each main service has a clear description in plain language.
- There's one obvious next step, like "Call now", "Book", or "Request a quote".
4. Is everything accurate?
- Prices, hours, and contact details match what you tell customers in person.
- Spelling and grammar have been checked.
- Photos are your own, or you have permission to use them.
- Any reviews or testimonials are real and from real customers.
5. Can people find it?
- Each page has its own title that says what the page is about.
- Images have short descriptions (alt text) for people using screen readers.
- Your business name, phone, and website are the same everywhere they appear online.
- The site loads over https:// with no security warning.
6. Do you own it?
- The domain name is registered in your name, and you know when it renews.
- You know who hosts the site and how to make or request changes.
